I never had the benefit of formal basketball trainingāmy game was built on raw instinct and an unyielding will to win. I often tell my son that heās already ahead of where I was at his age. Heās received structured coaching, attended numerous camps, competed in many tournaments, and learned from very good coaches from a young age. Sometimes, I canāt help but compare his journey to mine, but Iāve come to realize that this isnāt fair to either of us. As parents, itās easy to fall into this trap, forgetting that each childās path is unique.
Now, I try to focus less on comparisons and more on supporting him in ways that matter. During our everyday conversations, I simply share my thoughts and encouragement. We watch videos togetherāsometimes of his opponents, sometimes of his own gamesāand discuss what went well and where he can improve. My goal is to guide him without overshadowing his experience, helping him grow while letting him maintain his love for the game.
Above all, I pray that his passion for basketball never fades and that he continues to put in the hard work. In the coming days, I hope to capture and share his unique journeyāa story that is entirely his own.
