The Great Adventure Bible: A Journey Through Salvation History

Credits to Rain Raven for the gift

The Great Adventure Bible is a Catholic study Bible uniquely designed to help readers grasp the overarching narrative of Scripture—revealing how all the books come together as a single, unified story of salvation. It is closely linked to the popular podcast The Bible in a Year with Fr. Mike Schmitz, and is based on Jeff Cavins’ Great Adventure Bible Timeline, which organizes the Bible chronologically according to salvation history. This structure makes it much easier to see the big picture of God’s plan.

I am thrilled to have received my own copy from the United States, thanks to my nephew, Rain Raven. I began following the podcast in 2022, initially using the New International Version. However, I only obtained the Revised Standard Version – Second Catholic Edition (RSV 2CE) last February, which is the version Fr. Mike Schmitz and Jeff Cavins use in their podcast.

Having this daily routine has become very meaningful to me. It has helped me confront anxiety, depression, and a variety of negative thoughts and feelings. Reading the Bible and listening to Fr. Mike Schmitz, Jeff Cavins, and their programs through Ascension Press have greatly enriched my Catholic faith and spiritual life.

Below are the features of the Bible and the Bible Timeline. The Bible is organized around 14 narrative books that tell the main story (from Genesis to Acts). Everything else fits into that story.

These books are grouped into 12 color‑coded time periods, such as:

  • Early World (Genesis)
  • Egypt & Exodus
  • Kingdom of David
  • Exile
  • Return
  • Messianic Fulfillment (Gospels)
  • Church Acts

Each time period has:

  • A distinct color
  • A timeline marker
  • Cross‑references showing how other books connect
