Embracing Unique Paths

Credits to Bernadette Rosell for the videos

I never had the benefit of formal basketball training—my game was built on raw instinct and an unyielding will to win. I often tell my son that he’s already ahead of where I was at his age. He’s received structured coaching, attended numerous camps, competed in many tournaments, and learned from very good coaches from a young age. Sometimes, I can’t help but compare his journey to mine, but I’ve come to realize that this isn’t fair to either of us. As parents, it’s easy to fall into this trap, forgetting that each child’s path is unique.

Now, I try to focus less on comparisons and more on supporting him in ways that matter. During our everyday conversations, I simply share my thoughts and encouragement. We watch videos together—sometimes of his opponents, sometimes of his own games—and discuss what went well and where he can improve. My goal is to guide him without overshadowing his experience, helping him grow while letting him maintain his love for the game.

Above all, I pray that his passion for basketball never fades and that he continues to put in the hard work. In the coming days, I hope to capture and share his unique journey—a story that is entirely his own.
